Nice beach weather ahead, Bertha may make waves

A beautiful morning in southern and central Maine continues with a great beach day ahead. If you are headed to the beach, a tropical storm named Bertha could be making for some bigger waves and a bit of an undertow the next couple of days. This is only the second named storm of the Atlantic season thus far. This is just about exactly where you would expect things to be […]

August still means plenty of summer is left

August is a funny month. It’s still summer, but for many as soon as the calendar turns they start lamenting about the end of the warmest season. August isn’t the end of summer, it’s just the final month of meteorological summer. August is to summer what February is to winter. By February the days are longer, it’s not generally as cold as January and there are signs of spring, especially […]

Nice end to the work week, but some showers possible this weekend

Any weekend in summer brings a lot of activity and this weekend is no exception. Whether you are getting married, renting a house on the beach or participating in a mini triathlon you want good weather. Although south of here, the Pan-Mass challenge is a big race for bikers all over New England. No rider wants to pedal in the rain and there is some good news: depending on the […]

Are latest tornado outbreaks a sign of a new pattern?

Before the possible showers this weekend I wanted to write about the wild weather of Sunday and Monday across New England. Of course the F-2 tornado which hit Revere, Massachusetts was the big story making national news and certainly the talk of many in the Boston area. Here in Maine the National Weather Service said a small tornado hit the town of Limington on Monday afternoon. The tornado was an […]

Possible tornado in southern Maine highlights a day of severe weather

Wild weather from southern to northern New England on Monday brought a rash of severe-thunderstorm warnings, at least one confirmed tornado, and damage to trees and buildings in several towns. Here in southern Maine, a storm that moved through Hollis, Standish and Limington caused quite a bit of tree damage. This storm did have rotation on the radar, and a tornado warning was issued as it moved through the area. […]

Strong to severe storms continue through early evening

More storms continue to rumble through the area this evening with severe thunderstorm warnings cropping up periodically mostly over southern and central Maine. A watch remains up for the western half of Maine and the image below shows areas in pink under the watch for another hour. This could be extended if conditions warrant. The orange boxes are where there is severe weather as of 6:45PM, but those will change […]

Showers back in the forecast through Monday, then more sunshine

Out latest stretch of nice weather is coming to an end, but a full day of rain isn’t in the cards. There are two major mechanisms that will be bringing our rainfall the next days. The first, today, is a warm front moving steadily northward. This front is going to usher in more humid air and a lot of cloudiness. The showers will be fairly numerous during the middle part […]

Nearly perfect weather into Saturday, then some showers

What’s a perfect 10 when it comes to the weather? Everyone is going to have a slightly different opinion, but I’m going to say the weather the next two days is a 10. While there might be some increase in clouds late Saturday, overall the today and tomorrow’s weather is going to be ideal. High pressure stays in control during this period, there will be low levels of humidity and […]
