One more great day, then unsettled weather moves in

What a spectacular day. I was kayaking off the coast of Harpswell and feeling really fortunate to be able to be in Maine on such a beautiful afternoon. The moon tonight is full and as it illuminates the landscape you’ll hopefully feel the evening is as beautiful as the day. The humidity was very low today and we didn’t see much in the way of clouds. Across southern New England […]

With more storms in the forecast, here’s a brief lesson on reading the Doppler radar

Mid-summer weather is hot and humid and often brings the chance of showers and storms to the region. Although we did have a steady rain for July 4th, most of the time all of our rain in the summer comes from scattered showers and not a widespread general rain. Again today the forecast calls for a chance of thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon. Many times our storms roll south and […]

Arthur spoils outdoor activities this 4th of July

This morning I find myself listening to the sound of rain and knowing many of you have had to change your plans for today. The current rain is associated with a slow moving cold front and is now interacting with Arthur. This means tropical downpours on and off today. Last night some nasty storms rolled through parts of the area bringing strong winds, frequent lightning and heavy rain. Some hail […]

July 4th looking potentially unsettled, but hope for the fireworks

A southerly wind brought a sea breeze to the coast late this afternoon and helped Portland, Brunswick and Rockland have temperatures in the more comfortable 70s. The heat and humidity were both quite high inland and it’s going to be a rather uncomfortable night for sleeping. Of course the start of July is also the July 4th weekend and many of you look forward to this holiday all year. This […]

Fine summer weather, but more humidity and potential issues on July 4th

A beautiful start to the week, but all is not perfect in the land of weather this morning as storminess looms off the east coast of Georgia and will likely turn into the season’s first tropical storm and then a hurricane sometime this week. As we all know weather has now become a play by play game for the media to volley around to attract viewers. If this does turn […]

Another great summer day in Maine and it’s going to last a while

If you look at averages in New England, the period from the middle of June until the middle of August is generally filled with warm and somewhat humid weather. We don’t usually have full days of rain and it’s rarely very chilly. There are some exceptions to this of course. The mid and Downeast coast of Maine often has fog and cooler readings than their inland counterparts. The highest peaks […]

Summer weather at it’s finest this weekend

A rather wide variety of weather across the areas the past 24 hours with heat, humidity, rain, thunder, cool marine air and some sunshine all taking place. The good news is that most areas saw some significant rain the past 24 hours. It takes very little time for the top soil to dry out right now and rain showers every few days is a big help. The Doppler radar meteorologists […]

Showers mark the end of our latest stretch of nice weather

There are lots of superlatives to use for the weather the past several days. Since late last week conditions have been nearly ideal. We all know this stretch had to come to an end, but need rain so it’s a good thing. There are lots of clouds around the region today and there have been plenty of showers up along the New Hampshire border in the western part of the […]

Smooth sailing for two more days before some showers arrive

We had some new neighbors recently move two houses away so we had them over for some food and libations later in the afternoon yesterday. After that period of cloudiness during the middle of the day, the skies became clear and it was just a stellar evening to enjoy. I can’t remember this many low humidity, cool mornings followed by warm afternoons this time of year. While heat and humidity […]
