A much improved forecast for the holiday and weekend

At least there is no talk of drought so far this summer.  Again, areas saw more showers overnight.  The bigger news was the marine air that filtered past Portland and west into New Hampshire and parts of Vermont.  East of there, dew points and temperatures fell and the night had a coolness to it we haven’t seen in many days.   Unfortunately, for those who hate the heat and humidity, this […]

Humidity and showers plague the area

While we have had some nice weather since early May, we haven’t had many.   This weekend ended up being relatively nice, but not rain free.  Showers and storms crossed the area at different times Saturday and Sunday with most of us staying dry nearly all of the time. This evening some big storms moved through the lakes region after what was a very nice day. You might have noticed humidity […]

Ocean air pushes humidity south for a bit

When you got up this morning were you surprised how cool it has become?  Temperatures are barely at 60F this morning across most of Maine.  Some areas to the north are in the 50s. I’ll be updating the details of the July 4th forecast on Twitter at @growingwisdom Please follow me there. Feel free to comment or ask questions too.   A front brought ocean air to New England yesterday […]

    More showers and storms today

For many camps today is arrival day and across much of Maine the weather will not be in a great mood.  Already we are seeing showers and thunderstorms develop over Vermont and New York and I expect these areas to move south and expand during the day.  I’ll be updating the details of the July 4th forecast on Twitter at @growingwisdom Please follow me there. Feel free to comment or […]

A pattern of showers and humidity

Maine is vacationland and many folks live and visit for our great summer weather. While this morning is quite nice, we do have more storms for later today.   Over the next week to 10 days I think it will be important to take advantage of the morning as the chance for rain will increase in the afternoon.   I’ll be updating the details of the July 4th forecast on […]

Some heat, but lots of humidity

Showers and storms rumbled through much of Maine yesterday and overnight.  Those storms marked the leading edge of a tropical air mass remaining in place for many days to come. While there will be some heat you’ll really notice lots of humidity.  Yesterday, inland spots in York County hit 90F.  Since most places will hit 90 or higher the next two or three days this latest round of sultry weather […]

First summer weekend brings great weather

I’ll be updating the details of the weekend forecast on Twitter at @growingwisdom Please follow me there. Feel free to comment or ask questions too. Summer officially arrived just after 1 AM Friday along the east coast and this means that the sun has now reached its highest point in the sky for the year.  Some kids may still be in school, but the days lose a few seconds of […]

    A rain-free forecast

No, that isn’t a typo in the headline this morning.  There are no watches, no warnings, no thunder and no raindrops for Maine for the next few days.  Finally, a stretch of dry weather is here.   Our wet June pattern is going to quickly transition into a more typical summertime pattern when those showers we do get are scattered and not accompanied by torrents of rain. I’ll be updating […]

Mostly dry, but a few showers possible

It was a wild afternoon and evening for parts of the area with vivid lightning, hail, torrential rain and damaging winds.  There was no major damage to report from the storms, but my dogs certainly were not thrilled.   This morning we find areas of clouds, but also some sunny breaks.   While the radar is not showing any precipitation around Maine now, there are two lines of showers back through New […]
