Democratic 2nd Congressional District candidate Emily Cain will report raising more than $670,000 from July through September, her campaign said Thursday. It’s the strongest haul in one quarter yet for Cain, who raised a total of more than $1.5 million and had more than $400,000 left in her coffers at September’s end, campaign spokeswoman Amy Cookson said in an email. Details of Cain’s filing weren’t available Thursday, six days before they’re due at the Federal […]

Conservative counterattack from Cain leaves out important facts

Democratic 2nd Congressional District candidate Emily Cain released a new television ad on Wednesday night that tries to counter ads from Republican Bruce Poliquin that brand her a spendthrift liberal. The messaging she uses is somewhat conservative, taking credit for cutting $4 billion in spending in her time in the Maine Legislature and passing tax cuts. However, there are problems: Her figure for spending cuts only counts one side of Maine’s budgetary ledger, and […]

Poliquin attacks Cain as ‘extreme liberal’ in ad

Republican 2nd Congressional District hopeful Bruce Poliquin beat his opponent, Democrat Emily Cain, to the punch on Friday with his first negative ad of the general election campaign, painting Cain as an “extreme liberal.” It hits her on diverse issues, from energy to taxes to felons’ right to vote. With added context, the claims don’t all prove that Cain was terribly extreme, but the facts are pretty much correct. Yes, Cain did […]
