Bogaerts batting ninth; Owens goes today

Clearing the Bases

BOSTON – Greetings from Boston, where it is Maine Day today. The lineup is out and the slumping Xander Bogaerts is now batting ninth.

The lineup: Holt RF, Nava LF, Pedroia 2B, Ortiz DH, Napoli 1B, Drew SS, Ross C, Bradley CF, Bogaerts 3B (Peavy P).

Boston (39-48) split with the Orioles Saturday, failing to make-up ground on first-place Baltimore (47-40).

Jake Peavy (1-7, 4.82) goes today at 1:30 p.m. for the Red Sox. Maybe a solid start will lead to a trade.

Henry Owens (11-3, 2.30) pitches for the Sea Dogs in Portland at 1 p.m. (so why do the Red Sox have Maine Day at Fenway, when the Sea Dogs are home?).

Portland swept New Britain Saturday. Sean Coyle (.355) had four RBI (now 45) and hit his 11th home run.

Pawtucket dropped a 7-6 game in Syracuse when Drake Britton (1-3, 5.66) walked home the winning run … Anthony Ranaudo did not have his best start: 6 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 1 BB, 6 K, but the ERA is still at 2.66.

Salem starter Pat Light (3-4, 5.92) had one of his better starts: 6 Ip, 3 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 2 K.

Greensville’s Carlos Asuaje (.309) had a double and triple.
