Buchholz, Marrero, Dogs

Clearing the Bases

The All-Star break will officially begin this afternoon when the Portland Sea Dogs play their noon game at Hadlock Field (lineup below).

The Red Sox certainly finished on a high note Sunday with Clay Buchholz showing his old form: 9 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 12 K (109 pitches/76 strikes) ... Brock Holt (.3217) was 5-for-6 ... Jackie Bradley Jr. got a hit. In his last 10 games, he's batting .371.

Pawtucket had Brandon Workman starting and Allen Webster piggy-backing. You wouldn't think the PawSox would need to score a lot of runs, but they won 13-8.

Leading the offensive charge was shortstop Deven Marrero (.326), going 4-for-5 with two doubles and six RBI. I'm sensing a September call-up for the former Sea Dogs glove maestro ... Alex Hassan (.280) continues to come on strong, going 3-for-6 ... Travis Shaw (.268) was 2-for-4 ... Derrik Gibson was 3-for-4 and Matt Spring 2-for-4.

Gibson is scheduled to return to the Sea Dogs today, and fly to Altoona Tuesday for the Eastern League All-Star Game.

Workman: 5 IP, 10 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 3 K ... Webster: 4 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 4 K.

Blake Swihart (.293) hit his 10th home run for the Sea Dogs ... Other home runs were hit by David Chester (.301, 4th) and Shannon Wilkerson (.276, 2nd).

The Sea Dogs lineup today: Peter Hissey RF, Shannon Wilkerson CF, Blake Swihart C, Michael Almanzar 3B, David Chester 1B, Jonathan Roof LF, Heiker Meneses 2B, Danny Bethea DH, Ryan Dent SS (Mike Augliera P)
