Can the Red Sox actually catch up?

Clearing the Bases

So the Red Sox beat Toronto 14-1 on Monday. Fourteen runs? That once was the total Red Sox output for a week.

Maybe they actually be a contender again. Tom Caron is thinking that in his column.

The blog will be taking a break for a few days, so it will be interesting to see how the standings change this week.

AL EAST

Baltimore   54-44

New York 50-48 (4 back)

Toronto      51-49 (4)

Boston        47-52 (7.5)

Tampa Bay 47-53 (8)

The Sea Dogs continue to look like a playoff team, beating Binghamton 6-4. Ryan Lavarnway joined the Dogs on a rehab assignment, going 0-for-4 with an RBI … Derrik Gibson (.328) went 4-for-5 … Sean Coyle (.326) 2-for-5 … and Blake Swihart (.295) 1-for-3.

Pawtucket won as Allen Webster (3.10) put in another fine start: 7 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 3 K.

Jake Peavy (1-8, 4.59) goes for the Red Sox Tuesday night … The Sea Dogs have home games Tuesday and Wednesday against Binghamton.

I’ll check back during the weekend
