Can the Sea Dogs hang on?

Clearing the Bases

As I approach my annual time to clear the head and close the laptop (and only occasionally check the phone), the Portland Sea Dogs are trying to hold onto their lead in the Eastern League East Division.

With most of their prospects promoted, Portland is still looking in line for a a playoff spot.

After Saturday, Portland was 71-44, three games ahead of Binghamton (67-46) and 14.5 ahead of New Britain (55-57). The top two teams in the division reach the post-season. After Saturday, Portland's magic number to be a playoff team was 15.

After Sunday, the Sea Dogs go on a week-long road trip to Maryland and Virginia. They return to Hadlock Field the following week, as will I.
